Coastal Health Alliance is pleased to announce the addition of Joe Blumenthal MD FACC, Cardiologist, to its staff of specialty health care providers.
Medical Director Mike Witte —The addition of Dr. Blumenthal’s Cardiology skills enhances CHA’s speciality services in ways that are very important to expanding the scope of our local care and making it even more relevant to the healthcare needs of the community.
Dr. Blumenthal was born in South Africa and completed Medical School in Johannesburg. He immigrated to London, England for his first year residency and came to the United States in 1962 to complete further training in Internal Medicine. After that he completed specialty fellowship training in Cardiology at Tufts Medical School in Boston.
In 1966 Joe came to San Francisco and was CCU director and Cardiology Invasive Laboratory Assistant Director at Mt. Zion Hospital. He began private practice in Cardiology in the Mission District of SF (St. Luke’s Hospital) in 1970 and joined the clinical teaching staff at UCSF, as Associate Clinical Professor in Medicine. Joe became Chief of Cardiology at St. Luke’s from 1989-2000, Dr. Blumenthal retired his practice in December 2010 but continues to teach at UCSF.
Dr. Blumenthal joined the CHA staff on May 12th 2011.
